The club of the quad-core smartphones is expanding everyday. Next in line, right after Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X we got the LG Optimus 4X HD.
By design the smartphone follows the line previously imposed by Prada 3.0 and L7. The shape is rectangular with rounded corners and a combination of metal and plastic. The second material is mainly in the back panel and looks a lot like the one we’ve seen a few months ago in Prada. The metal surrounds the periphery in two parallel lines and makes the phone’s appearance massive and luxurius. The weight is 133 grams with the following dimensions – 132.4 mm height, 68.1 mm width and thickness of only 8.9 mm. The color options at the time are just two – black and white, but by the information given by some unofficial sources, we could expect a more suitable for the ladies – deep red.
The Optimus 4X HD has a capacitive touchscreen display, using the True HD-IPS LCD technology. It’s 4.7 inches with a 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. It’s covered in Gorilla Glass which is proven to be a great protection against scratches. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the „glass“ is not only on display but also along the entire front panel. So, the three buttons below and the light and proximity sensors are also protected. That goes for the additional camera for video calls as well – the image transmitted trough it is with a 1.3 mp equivalent, looks realistic and we didn’t notice any lagging during conversations.
The main camera in the rear panel is 8 MP, it has auto focus with the useful touch focus function and image stabilization. Also available is the Geo-tagging system combined with the navigation. Videos are shot in Full HD with 1080p and 30fps. We were glad to find out that with the help of the stong LED flash it’s possible to capture objects within the range of 4 meters in total darkness.
The periphery is quite clear and stylish. There we find a standard 3.5 mm audio jack, the power-button and a microUSB playing the role of a charging port. The best part of the LG Optimus 4X is it’s hardware. The processor is Quad-core Cortex-A9, with each core running at 1.5 GHz. The chipset – Nvidia Tegra 3, and the GPU – ULP GeForce. Our tests have shown that the phone works quite well at heavy loading, with only one concern – a little overheating, which is actually something we see in most of the really powerful processors. The operating system is the well known and Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Initially it was used mainly for tablets, but it soon found its place in the world of smartphones.
What’s new in that LG phone is its interface – Optimus UI 3.0 with a really nice function called Quick Memo. It allows you to make notes on the display using your finger no matter if you are at the home screen or not. Then you can then share the via social networks, text message, or email.
In the end – another thing that made us a favorable impression is the battery. It is a Li-Ion with a charge of 2150 mAh, and allows the phone to work for around 730 hours on hold.
