Last year wasn’t the year that we all hoped for in the smartphone world. It brought us some interesting designs but nothing more than that. After a not so great 2017, we all hope that 2018 will be much more exciting. Based on the current trends here is what to expect:
18:9 Screen
The screen format will slowly become a standard in the mid-range devices and it will be no longer limited only to high-end phones. Is this a good thing though? It may be more aesthetically pleasing and much better for media but the downfall is that larger screen means more vulnerability to the hardware.
Quick unlocking
With bezels disappearing there will be less and less room for a fingerprint reader. The options available are iris scanner, face scanner, fingerprint reader on the back or fingerprint reader on the front – beneath the display. It will be interesting to watch how the options evolve and how manufacturers deal with the problems of each particular solution.
More artificial intelligence
The two main innovations here are AI hardware chipsets (Huawei and Apple) and smart assistants (Google). However some users still doubt this technology and this is mainly due to the fact that it hasn’t really made any real difference in their day-to-day usage so far. Even if it’s illustrated fairly well in the Google’s photo recognition system and Huawei’s translation features, it’s still a long way. Anyways, it’s one of the biggest tech trends now and for sure will be growing widely in 2018.
